_______________
Full Dentures are a great solution to anyone who needs teeth replacement. Full Dentures use a gum-coloured acrylic to hold a set of new replacement teeth and there are three main types, all of which strive to give patients the comfort and stability of real teeth.
Immediate Dentures
With Immediate Dentures, you walk into the dentist office with your remaining real teeth and walk out with a set of full dentures. Immediate dentures are designed and fabricated before your teeth are removed, and this way you are not without teeth for any duration. Since immediate dentures are placed in the jaw right after teeth extraction, they will need increased adjustments for the first year due to the gums healing and shifting.
Conventional Dentures
Conventional Dentures are designed and crafted prior to teeth being removed from a patient. After the teeth are extracted there is a healing period for the gums, and during this time the patient will not have any teeth. After the gums have healed and settled the conventional dentures are inserted and because the mouth has had ample time to heal, the dentures will fit comfortably. On occasion conventional dentures may have to be relined since the mouth is always in a state of change.
Equilibrated Dentures
Equilibrated Dentures are fabricated and customized to individual patients. The movement of the jaw is unique to every individual; a denturist makes precise measurements to ensure that equilibrated dentures will perform in the most natural way. Alongside greater mechanics, equilibrated dentures have a natural look and use higher quality denture teeth.
Bottom Line: Immediate, Conventional and Equilibrated Dentures are all removable which means they need to be handled with care when they are not in the safety of the mouth. When removed, all dentures need to be kept moist to prevent them from drying up and warping. During the night dentures have to go for a soak in a water-based solution; your denturist can give you recommendations on cleaning products. Lastly, dentures are not immune to plaque, which means it's essential to keep brushing them gently and daily, all of which will keep your dentures pearly white and smiling!
