Your Guide To Partial Dentures

Custom, natural-looking partial dentures can provide a viable alternative to fixed bridgework or implants as a tooth replacement option.

A removable partial denture fills the gap between two healthy teeth and consists of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored base. The partial denture design often consists of a clasp that attaches to your natural teeth, holding the denture in place.

Partial dentures offer several benefits including:

  • Make it easier to speak and chew
  • Maintain the shape of your face
  • Decrease the risk of periodontal disease
  • Prevent remaining teeth from shifting in your mouth
  • Ease the stress of your jaw

What Are My Partial Denture Options?

At Future Smiles, we offer our patients two type of removable partial dentures - cast metal and implant retained dentures.

CAST METAL PARTIAL DENTURES

This is a strong denture which is less bulky while offering a great fit. It has a metal framework to which high-quality denture teeth are attached.

  • Easy to customize
  • Provides a high level of comfort
  • Durable
  • Stable
IMPLANT RETAINED PARTIAL DENTURES

This is a type of overdenture that is supported by and attached to implants. A regular denture rests on the gums and is not supported by implants.

  • Greater comfort
  • Smooth function
  • Clasps aren’t visible
  • Seamless function

Caring For Your Partial Dentures

As with your natural teeth, taking good care of your removable partial dentures is important. Here are some simple tips to follow:

  1. Clean your partial denture every day
  2. Brush all of the denture surfaces gently
  3. Keep your dentures in water or a soaking solution when you’re not wearing them
  4. Brush your natural teeth twice a day
  5. Do NOT clean your denture with toothpaste (mild hand soap or dishwashing soap works best)
  6. Rinse the partial denture well after using any denture cleaner
  7. Take extra care when cleaning teeth which fit under the denture’s metal clasp.

Partial Denture Repairs & Adjustments

Over time the fit of your partial denture may change. Your jaw bone may shrink, food may get trapped or the clasps may become loose from normal wear.

If your partial dentures require any repairs or adjustments, do not try to fix them yourself. The sooner you make an appointment at our denture clinic, the sooner you can have a well-fitting denture once again.

At Future Smiles, we offer 3-6 months of FREE ADJUSTMENTS depending on the type of denture you opt for. During this time, we will adjust your dentures as needed as well as provide all the aftercare necessary to avoid any health problems.

If you have any questions about partial dentures for you or one of your family members, our friendly and experienced team members would be happy to help. Contact our denture clinic at 403-475-0016.
