Repairing Your Own Dentures

We Canadians are tough, resilient and we believe we are master engineers when it comes to “do it yourself” projects or repairing broken appliances. Our tools of choice are often super glue and duct tape. Handle on your Flames mug break? Grab some super glue. Broken kitchen appliance? Put some duct tape on it. Your dentures break in half? Grab the super glue again. Not so fast! In this case the only solution is visiting denturist Vlad Dumbrava at his Future Smiles Clinic, as soon as possible.

We understand that being without your dentures for even a short period of time is both an inconvenience and uncomfortable; however, accidents do happen and your dentures may warp, break or no longer fit properly. No matter what the malfunction, at Future Smiles Denture Clinic we advise against fixing your own dentures. Denturist Vlad has a state-of-the-art lab at his clinic where trained technicians can fix broken dentures, and in emergencies, he can have your dentures fixed in a very short period of time.

If your dentures break and you just can’t be without them, we recommend using specialized denture products. But remember, glues and similar denture products are only temporary fixes; you will need to bring your dentures into the Future Smiles Clinic for a proper repair or replacement. If you have fixed your dentures, you will most likely have not aligned them to the exact specs, which means they will not fit properly and will irritate your gums, or worse, damage the tissues in your mouth. You might have eaten glue when you were in elementary school, but as adults, you don’t want superglue anywhere near your mouth.

Your dentures are delicate and we advise you take care of them and use caution when they are not in your mouth. Dentures often break when people are cleaning or handling them when they are about to go to sleep. If your dentures seem loose or no longer fit properly, don’t be alarmed, and schedule an appointment with Denturist Vlad for a routine checkup. As you age, your gums will begin to have subtle changes which can cause dentures to become loose, and routine appointments will allow denturist Vlad to ensure your dentures are always fitting optimally.

If you have broken, worn out, or loose fitting dentures, contact Denturist Vlad Dumbrava at the Future Smiles Clinic in SW Calgary for denture repair today at 403-475-0016.
