What Materials Are Partial Dentures Made From?

There are many different types of materials for partial dentures and depending on your specific budget and needs, your denturist can suggest which is right for you.

Some of the different partial denture materials include:

  1. Acrylic Partial Dentures: This is a hard resin materials. For the dentures, it is pink for the base and gums, and enamel-coloured for the replacement teeth. This type of denture is held in your mouth by metal clasps and when in place, the metal is fully covered by your mouth.

  2. Metal Partial Dentures: This is a denture that has a metal base, typically made from an alloy containing cobalt and chrome. Like an acrylic denture, the material used for the gums is a pink acrylic and the replacement teeth are enamel coloured resin. These dentures are designed to be thin and strong, and they provide greater support for your remaining teeth.

  3. Flexible Partial Dentures: Instead of acrylic or metal, this type of partial denture is constructed from a flexible plastic which fits neatly into your mouth and is virtually invisible. This type of denture doesn’t need metal clasps to keep it in place. Instead, the clasps are made from the same flexible material for greater comfort and a better aesthetic appearance.
