What are Dentures?

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are used when just one or more of your teeth need replacing. They also prevent your remaining teeth from shifting, maintaining their proper alignment.

Partial dentures can be fixed or removable. Fixed dentures, also known as implants, are bonded permanently in place. They tend to be more expensive than removable partial dentures which typically have metal fasteners.

With a partial denture, you will experience some incredible benefits including:

  • Enhanced appearance and self confidence
  • Improved chewing ability
  • Potentially improved speech
  • Prevention of your natural teeth shifting out of alignment
  • Reduced risk of TMJD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder)
  • Prevention of facial changes by supporting your muscles, cheeks and lips
  • Relieving pressure from your other teeth, reducing the risk of tooth wear and periodontal disease

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are often referred to as ‘false teeth’ and are used when all of the natural teeth are missing. There are two types of complete dentures:

  • Conventional dentures - These are made and inserted after all the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal. This can take up to 8-12 weeks.
  • Immediate dentures - Immediate dentures are made in advance and can be inserted as soon as the teeth are removed. However, because your bones and gums can shrink during the healing period, immediate dentures often need to be relined for a proper fit.

If you have lost all of your natural teeth, whether from gum disease, tooth decay or injury, being fitted with a set of complete denture will improve your:

  • Quality of life
  • Health
  • Appearance
  • Ability to chew and bite
  • Speech

At Future Smiles, we understand that full dentures may require an adjustment period. To ensure that you are 100% comfortable with your new set of teeth, we offer 3-6 months of FREE ADJUSTMENTS, depending on the dentures you opt for.

When you visit our denturist clinic, we will carefully review your circumstances and determine the best way to meet all of your needs, while respecting your budget.
