Denture rebase in Calgary. Keep the teeth you know.
Over time, many denture wearers find their dentures become loose, ill-fitting and uncomfortable. In many cases there is a simpler solution than a complete replacement.
A new foundation for your existing denture.
A rebase is often recommended when the base material of your denture has worn down. By replacing the base with new acrylic, your denturist can provide a stable denture without replacing the denture teeth. Reasons a rebase may be recommended include:
How often is a rebase needed?
It depends on the quality of your denture materials. Typically, a rebase is needed about every five years to renew the life of the denture and maintain comfort and fit.
Not every loose or broken denture needs replacing.
If you are unhappy with your dentures, your denturist may recommend one of the following after an assessment.
Reline
Needed when bone and tissue change due to shrinkage. The following must still be in good condition:
Rebase
Similar to a reline, but a rebase replaces all of the pink acrylic base material. The existing teeth stay in exactly the same position.
Repair
Restores a fractured or damaged denture close to its original condition. Your denturist can then advise on its condition and how to prevent further damage.
Denture Repairs →One year of complimentary adjustments.
We want every patient to have the peace of mind that comes with a comfortable, well-fitting denture. Ask our team how one year of complimentary adjustments and repairs applies to your new denture.
Never repair or reshape your dentures yourself.
If you are unsatisfied with the fit and comfort of your dentures, always visit your denturist. Trying to fix them yourself could result in:

Denture rebase vs. denture reline
Both treatments improve the fit of a denture, but they replace different amounts of material.
| Denture reline | Denture rebase | |
|---|---|---|
| What is replaced | A new layer on the fitting surface that touches your gums | The entire pink acrylic base |
| Teeth | Stay in the existing base | Transferred to the new base |
| Best when | The base is sound but the fit has loosened | The base is worn, stained, cracked or repaired many times, but the teeth are still good |

Denture rebase questions, answered.
How long does a denture rebase take?
A rebase is processed in a dental laboratory, so you are usually without the denture for part of a day or longer, depending on the case. Because Future Smiles has an in-house lab in Calgary, our team can tell you the expected turnaround before you book.
When is a rebase better than a new denture?
A rebase makes sense when your denture teeth are still in good shape but the base is worn, discoloured or fragile. If the teeth are badly worn or the bite has changed a lot, a new denture may give a better long-term result.
How often do dentures need a rebase?
Far less often than a reline. Many patients need a rebase only after several years, when the acrylic base has aged. Regular check-ups help your denturist spot when a rebase or replacement is the better choice.
Do I need a referral to see a denturist in Calgary?
No. You can contact Future Smiles directly to book a free consultation at our Coral Springs (NE) or Macleod Trail (SW) clinic. If your situation needs coordination with your dentist or another oral health provider, our team will discuss that with you.
Does insurance or CDCP cover this service?
Future Smiles accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), NIHB, AISH and major dental insurance plans, with direct billing where available. Coverage, eligibility and co-payments vary by plan, so our team reviews your expected patient portion with you before treatment begins. Medicard financing is also available for eligible treatment.
