Dental Implants

What are Dental Implant Supported Crowns?

This month we will be doing a series of posts about dental implants. What are they? Are you a candidate? And how to properly care for your dental implants.

Missing teeth can be embarrassing, and not only affect your quality of life but also your emotional well-being. Dental implants can give you not only the freedom to eat what you want, but to smile with confidence and ease.

Dental Implants are one treatment option for individuals with missing teeth. Unlike conventional dentures, dental implants are more structurally secure than conventional dentures because they are firmly attached using artificial roots.

A dental implant consists of an artificial root that looks like a small screw and is made of titanium. The titanium root is surgically inserted into the jawbone, where it eventually fuses with the bone and secures the dental implant in place.

If you are only missing one tooth, or only one tooth in a series of teeth, then you will likely only require a single implant, called a Dental Implant Supported Crown. In this case one artificial root is inserted into the jawbone, and a single artificial tooth is attached to the top of it. Dr. Dumbrava will create a custom artificial tooth for you, so you know it will be the right size, shape and colour and will blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth. This is not only to ensure your smile looks completely natural but also ensure that the tooth will function correctly.

If you care for your dental implants properly they will last for the rest of your life. Simply treat your dental implant as you would your natural teeth, brushing them at least twice a day and paying special attention to your gums. It is also recommended that you book follow up appointments with Vadim Dumbrava every six months so that he can examine your dental implant and ensure it is functioning properly.
