Teeth-In-A-Day Dental Implants: 4 Steps to a Beautiful Smile

Dental implants are considered to be the premier method of tooth replacement given their natural appearance and long lifespan. However, standard implants require a series of procedures over the course of several months.

With the teeth-in-a-day procedure, however, getting new replacement teeth take only four simple steps and you’ll walk out of your denturist’s office with a beautiful smile!

Step 1: Tooth Extraction

If a damaged tooth cannot be restored, then it must be extracted first. When this is done as part of the tooth-in-a-day process, then it’s done with the goal of minimizing disturbance of the socket and surrounding tissues.

Step 2: Dental Implant Placement

After your tooth extraction, your denturist will insert a titanium dental implant post into the empty socket and stabilizes it with a bone grafting material. A small metal abutment, or connector piece, is then added, which will be used to attach the crown to the post.

Step 3: Temporary Crown Placement

A temporary crown is placed on the abutment. Typically, this is smaller than the permanent version and its purpose is to protect the implant as it heals. This smaller size is hardly noticeable and you’ll leave the denturist’s office with a beautiful smile.

Step 4: Permanent Crown Placement

After 1-3 months of healing, you’ll return to your denturist’s office to replace the temporary crown with a permanent replacement tooth. This will be designed to be a perfect match in size, shape, and colour to your natural teeth.

Is a Teeth-in-a-Day Procedure Right For Me?

In general, this option is best for individuals who need to replace a full arch of teeth. If you only have a single missing tooth, a traditional dental implant is typically the better option. However, there are other criteria that must be met in order to be considered a candidate for the teeth-in-a-day procedure.

  • Good Overall Health. Certain health issues may rule you out as a candidate. These can include autoimmune diseases, diabetes, or osteoporosis. In addition, you must be free of gum disease and other oral health issues before undergoing the procedure.

  • Jaw Bone Density. As with standard dental implants, jaw density may be a consideration in determining whether you’re a candidate for this procedure. However, significantly less bone structure is required for the teeth-in-a-day implants so it’s a viable option for those who can’t have standard implants.

  • Smoking. Smoking can impact the success of your procedure. While it won’t rule you out as a candidate, it’s important to quit smoking before undergoing the treatment to ensure the best possible results.

  • Age. While age itself isn’t a factor in whether you’re a good candidate or not, certain age-related health conditions can affect your eligibility. During your consultation, your denturist can review your medical history to determine if this is the right procedure for you.
